In today’s demanding, fast-paced hospitals, clinicians can benefit from any added efficiencies, especially with regard to frequent and vital procedures that their patients require such as port access. That’s why Becton, Dickinson and Company (BD) created the AllPoints Port Access System, a step-by-step port access kit designed to aid clinicians in their delivery of care.
One key component available as an option in the AllPoints Port Access System is the Amanda Port Stabilizer. Amanda Hope was a young cancer patient who dreamed about making the world a little easier for patients like her. Cancer patients have enough to face without having to worry about port access. That’s why BD, through Amanda’s inspiration, developed the Amanda Port Stabilizer.
The Amanda Port Stabilizer has several key features, including a preloaded infusion needle ready to access the port once dropped onto the sterile field and a sturdy construction, which allows the clinician to stabilize the port and insert the infusion needle with one hand. Additionally, its “friction fit” design allows for placement of the antimicrobial disc in the stabilizer prior to insertion. Its transparent material gives clinicians a constant view of the access site, while finger holes allow clinicians to maintain contact with the port, while protecting their fingers by keeping them at least ½ inch from the needle during insertion.
