Participants the 2015 Fun Run celebrating at the finish line.
By Ben Becze, CFRE, ONS Foundation Director of Development
From navigating the Learning Hall, to the paths from your hotel to the convention center, and even strolling along the beautiful San Antonio River Walk, you will certainly have no problem getting in your steps in each day at the ONS 41st Annual Congress. But for many, attending the 26th Annual ONS Foundation/Pfizer Oncology Fun Run/Walk & Wheelchair on Saturday, April 30 is a Congress an event worth the early rise and extra effort.
The Fun Run (5K) and Walk (1.5 miles) are wonderful opportunities for you and your friends (old and new) to start the final full day of Congress with an activity for a reason. Proceeds of your registration fee benefit the Ann Olson Memorial Scholarship Fund, which provides scholarships to registered nurses who are interested in and committed to oncology nursing to continue their education by pursuing a research doctoral degree (PhD or DNSc) or clinical doctoral degree (DNP). Our sincere thanks to our longtime partner and sponsor, Pfizer Oncology, for helping make the Fun Run possible each year.
The Fun Run can be as competitive as you like or as fun as you want. It’s all about making new memories with your fellow oncology nurses, getting in a brisk morning walk or run, and supporting a scholarship for a nurse who’s looking to advance themself. We’re expecting near 400 participants this year. We hope you are one of them!
The Fun Run/Walk & Wheelchair takes place on Saturday, April 30, 2016, near the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center. Warm-ups begin at 6:15 am, with the starting gun sounding at 6:30 am sharp. Registration prior to Congress is $30, and registration on site at the Pfizer Oncology booth is $35. Your registration fee includes a tech material event shirt, electronic race timing, and post-run/walk snacks and hydration.
