Pre-Congress sessions are optional, diverse learning opportunities for nurses who would like to enrich their clinical skills, build their leadership credentials, or enhance their knowledge in a specific area of oncology. You’ll network with other nursing go-getters during these two-hour or four-hour sessions. Sign up when you register for Congress.

Beyond the Basics: Nutrition Intervention and Supplementation in Cancer Care
Planned in collaboration with the Pain Management and Complementary and Integrative Therapies special interest groups
Learn more about nutrition and its effect on cancer care, specifically the use of complementary and alternative medicine special diets, healing foods, and nutritional supplements that are often used by patients throughout the cancer trajectory and survivorship period.

Many clinical and academic settings are now encouraging nurses to submit manuscripts for publication. You may also have some great ideas for articles, books, and multimedia. If you’re wondering how to get published, this session will teach you how to develop, prepare, and submit scholarly manuscripts for publication. This didactic workshop will also promote interaction between participants and faculty on their current projects. Participants are strongly encouraged to bring ideas, outlines, or draft manuscripts for guidance from faculty.

ONS Nominating Committee Session: From Bedside to the Boardroom: Navigating Your Pathway to Leadership
This interactive session will illustrate the practical application of the ONS Leadership Competencies. Prior to the course, participants will complete a self-assessment based on the competencies to identify areas for growth and development. Throughout several presentations and exercises, they’ll apply their results to form a personal leadership development plan. The speakers, ONS Nominating Committee, and ONS staff members will be available as resources throughout this session.

Compassion Fatigue: Building Resilience in Oncology Nurses
This session, a blend of didactic content with group and panel discussions, will focus on compassion fatigue and the role of nursing resilience in the oncology setting. Topics will include risk factors and identification of compassion fatigue, as well as clinical and academic programs that have been successful in decreasing turnover rates and increasing job satisfaction. Speakers will discuss compassion fatigue as it relates to acute illness and will include chronicity of illness, end of life, and bereavement. You’ll receive new resources for the assessment of compassion fatigue in your care area and learn how to implement them to measure outcomes.
